What's new? This release enables the IOT2050 PG2/SM Industrial Edge Device for Global Sales. This version features Disk Encryption, Secure Boot, and DevID pre-enabled from manufacturing.
  • Important Note for Existing IOT2050 PG2 Devices:
Existing IOT2050 PG2 Industrial Edge Devices cannot be updated to this new version via a standard firmware update. This is due to the recently enabled security features and a breaking change in the base OS. Further communication regarding update paths for these devices will be provided separately.
  • Breaking Change from simatic-iot2050-ied-os 3.0:
A breaking change is introduced in this release compared to simatic-iot2050-ied-os 3.0. The base OS has been updated to harmonize feature sets across all devices. Please be aware that initial releases may present some differences or missing features when compared to current device-specific builds (such as led management, full hardreset etc.). We highly recommend consulting the corresponding image manual for detailed information User Manual.
Feature Details
Supported Device Types SIMATIC IOT2050
IEDK Version IEDK v1.25.1 features without Resource Manager features
Known Issues The following are the known issues:
Issues Troubleshooting
Connecting an Edge Device to the IEM fails and the "Nginx configuration test failed" error message is displayed during activating the Edge Device phase. Check the DNS server configuration since the error message is DNS server related. The DNS server must be configured properly and reachable for the IEM.
In case several apps are being installed at the same time, it takes a while to reach the Edge Device UI. Wait for a while to reach the Edge Device UI.
Depending on the restart policies of the apps, the apps might not restart automatically after the reboot (includes also firmware update since it reboots the device). These apps should be manually started.
Usb stick cannot be booting via usb2 port of IOT2050 device for specific model. If the USB stick does not work properly, try with another type of USB stick.
IOT2050 power is not off once device is shutdown. Only SIMATIC IOT2050 IED firmware is shutdown. -
Edge apps user data is deleted after proxy conf or docker network edited Reconfigure and/or import user data after proxy changes.
In case of setting the IPs in the same subnet for network interfaces, one of the connections can be broken.More than one IP in the same subnet should not be set.Different network interfaces subnet should be used.
During the first login, it may take a while to reach Edge Device UI. The page can be refreshed after while.
The usb stick should be unplugged after the SIMATIC IOT2050 IED installation via installer in 60 seconds.-
After onboarding process via usb stick, in case of success and failure state, only Power LED is solid Green.-
There is not any NTP server by default in SIMATIC IOT2050 IED.The user should add the NTP server list during or after onboarding process.
NTP might not be set during onboarding process. It is recommended to set NTP server via Edge UI before onboarding process.
Fixed issues Bug fixes for the IE Runtime
Other Information The new base OS has been used to enable IOT2050 Industrial Edge Device. Be aware that initial releases may present some differences or missing features when compared to current device-specific builds from SIMATIC IOT2050 Industrial Edge Device.

Release Notes SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-OS

Version 3.0.0-7-arm64

Title Description
Firmware Name simatic-iot2050-ied-os-3.0.0-7-arm64
Industrial Edge Device Kit Version 1.22.3-1
Docker Version 20.10.24+dfsg1-1+deb12u1
Operating System Debian 12 Bookworm
Release Date July, 2025
What's new? The following features are inside SIMATIC IOT2050 Industrial Edge Device OS (SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-OS) V3.0:
- IEDK v1.22.3 features (Resource Manager features (e.g. CPU/NIC/GPU allocation/shared memory) are not included)
- Disk encryption support
- Watchdog enablement support
- OS file system switch from BTRFS to EXT4
- Manufacturing re-introduction of SIMATIC IOT2050 as Edge Device
- For this version to be installed, it must be done via SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-SS v3.0 (Service Stick). Firmware updates via IEM will not be possible.
- Before installing the SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-OS v3.0 via SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-SS v3.0, the UBoot needs to be upgraded first.
Known Issues The following are the known issues:
IssueTroubleshooting
Connecting an Edge Device to the IEM fails and the "Nginx configuration test failed" error message is displayed during activating the Edge Device phase.Check the DNS server configuration since the error message is DNS server related. The DNS server must be configured properly and reachable for the IEM.
In case user data of edge device is corrupted due to unexpected power-outage or forcibly shutdown of edge device. IED-OS filesystem recovery process is going to take place. The process might take 2-3 hours depending on hardware specification of the running device. -
Sporadically, the Edge Device might stuck during the boot phase when you perform a firmware update.Switch off the Edge Device and switch the Edge Device on again manually. After switching on the Edge Device, the Edge Device will boot from the previous firmware version. After that, you can again trigger the firmware update process.
In case several apps are being installed at the same time, it takes a while to reach the Edge Device UI.Wait for a while to reach the Edge Device U
During firmware update IED might fail to activate device due to a failure in IE Device Catalog service and might get stucked in Activating state. The device should be rebooted. It is expected that the device would boot from the previous firmware. Firmware update should be triggered again.
Depending on the restart policies of the apps, the apps might not restart automatically after the reboot (includes also firmware update since it reboots the device). These apps should be manually started.
IED can have two selected Gateway Interfaces when one network interface configured as Gateway Interface from IED UI before onboard and another network interface configured as Gateway Interface during the creation of Edge Device configuration file in IEM.While connecting the IPC Edge Device, Pre-Onboard Network Configurations made from IED UI should be checked in order to perform a flawless connection with New IPC Edge Device Onboarding Network Configurations generated from IEM.
USB stick cannot be booting via usb2 port of IOT2050 device for specific model. If the USB stick does not work properly, try with another type of USB stick.
Edge apps user data is deleted after proxy conf or docker network is edited.Reconfigure and/or import user data after proxy changes.
In case of setting the IPs in the same subnet for network interfaces, one of the connections can be broken.More than one IP in the same subnet should not be setDifferent network interfaces subnet should be used.
Users may experience decreased performance in specific operations (device reset, hard reset, firmware update process, log file download, and initial loading of the web-based login UI) compared to the previous version. In SIMATIC IOT2050 IED-OS v3.0, watchdog is configured for automatic enablement during installation. In rare instances, watchdog activation might fail after initial system setup.-
