In the "System" tab, you perform administrative and maintenance tasks of your Edge Device.
The followings are the administrative and maintenance tasks of your Edge Device:
Parameter
Description
Download Logs
Download logs for both administrative and debugging tasks
Log Settings
By default, Edge Apps are enabled to log into the internal memory of the Edge Device.
Select the required log level.
All log levels up to the selected log level are logged into the internal memory.
Application Settings
Memory Limit Check
Upon installing or starting an application, it is checked by the system if there is enough memory available to perform the action. In detail, the sum of all installed and running applications' defined value for reserved memory is checked against the device's memory capacity. If the value for reserved memory is not set by the application, the defined memory limit is taken for the calculation instead. The memory limit check ensures that enough memory is available for each running application on the device.
Enabling the "Memory Limit Check" restricts the application installation accordingly.
Disabling the "Memory Limit Check" will allow application installations without any limits.
Be aware of the risks associated with disabling the check.
Edge Device operational qualities include CPU, RAM, and storage.
Maximum CPU load
Maximum usable RAM
Maximum usable storage
All installed applications with their memory allocation on this device are listed here.
Application Name
Allocated Application Memory Limit
App Developer Mode Settings
Enable the app developer mode for accessing and using the tools for debugging, diagnosing and modifying an installed app.
Only the owner of the Edge Device can enable the app developer mode.
Shutdown
Shut down and power off the Edge Device.
The shutdown will be performed latest after the time has passed that you can configure under the "Timeout" section in the "Configuration" subsection.
Reboot
Reboot the Edge Device.
The reboot will be performed latest after the time has passed that you can configure under the "Timeout" section in the "Configuration" subsection.
Reset
Delete all user data except Admin data and configuration settings of the Edge Device.
The reset process takes approximately 5 minutes.
Hard Reset
Delete all user data and configuration settings of the Edge Device and remove the Edge Device from the IEM.
The Edge Device is reset to default settings to add the Edge Device again to an IEM.
The reset process takes approximately 5 minutes.
The Edge Device will automatically boot after the reset except the xHCi mode is not disabled.
Import Certificates to IED Trust Store
Import IEM certificates (*.json files only) to secure the connection to the Edge Device.
Import Edge Device Certificate
Import certificate and key to secure the connection to the Edge Device.
The required format is PEM.
If you import DNS-based certificates, select the "DNS Based Certificate" check box and enter the Edge Device URL for DNS-based certificates. In case of DNS-based certificates, connectivity between the IEM and all apps is established via the DNS.
Download Edge Device Certificate Chain
Download the certificate chain of trust that is being used for the Edge Device.
Remote Access Settings
Enable or disable the remote access to the specific Edge Device.
When you enable the remote access of the Edge Device, you also open the Edge Device UI in a new browser tab by clicking the tile of the specific Edge Device in the Industrial Edge Management.
NTP Server
Delete or add NTP servers that you want to use for this Edge Device to synchronize with the IEM.
Optionally you can select a preferred NTP server.
NOTICE
The display of maximum CPU Load, maximum usable RAM, maximum usable storage area and installed applications including their allocated memory limit on this screen depends on the settings that the Edge Device Builder configures for the Edge Device type.
NOTICE
Disabling the Memory Limit Check allows to install applications without any memory related restriction. Be aware that disabling the check might subsequently cause memory related issues when running applications on the Edge Device. Upon disabling the check, the user runs the applications at his own risk. Therefore, it is advised to monitor and ensure the proper functionality of the applications.
NOTICE
Shutdown
After selecting "Shutdown", you cannot remotely boot the Edge Device using the Management UI or the Edge Device UI.
In this case, you must reboot the Edge Device by turning it off and on again.
NOTICE
Remote Access
With remote access enabled, if a K8s IEM becomes inaccessible, it will take up to 7 minutes to connect via remote access once the IEM is connected to the IED.With remote access enabled, if a non-K8s IEM becomes inaccessible, it will take up to 15 minutes to connect via remote access once the IEM is connected to the IED.
NOTICE
Next-generation firewalls (NGFs)
Remote access to Industrial Edge Devices is established via a WebSocket connection with an overlay SSH channel. This enables secure communication and remote management of devices.
Next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) are capable of detecting and inspecting this traffic, potentially blocking it based on protocol identification and security policies.
If you are using an NGFW, ensure that TCP profile is used for this traffic to allow direct tunneling.
If an SSL profile is applied, make sure that SSH traffic is explicitly allowed within the profile.
WebSocket traffic is permitted to avoid disconnection issues.
Recommendation
Review firewall logs to verify if the traffic is being blocked.
Adjust settings accordingly to prevent interference with remote access functionality.
